The Amazing Quran [1]

The Quran is the last revealed word of Allah to the last Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) through the angel Jibraeel. It was then directed to his companions who either learnt it by heart or wrote it down for coming generations. Until now i.e. about fourteen years, the miraculous and unique book is preserved in its original state. Not one word of its 114 chapters is changed. The Quran deals with many subjects such as relation of humans to creator, wisdom, doctrine, worship, law and order, worship and supplication etc. There are many verses in holy Quran that are concerned with natural phenomena that are astounding to human mind. Science has formulated facts and figures about the universe and human body only after the Quran mentioned them about fourteen years ago. It is impossible to explain their presence in human’s terms, given the state of knowledge at the time the Qur’an was revealed. In the West, such statements had never before formed the subject of a scientific communication until recent times. This short article highlights only a few brief facts from the Amazing Qur’an.

The Origin of Life

“And We made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?” (21:30)

The basic unit of life is called a cell. It is made up of protoplasm and cytoplasm which consist of water and dissolved substances. Protoplasm consists of 80-85% water. Hence water is necessary for life to be in existence.

The Expansion of the Universe

The expansion of the universe is the most imposing discovery of modern science. Today it is a firmly established concept and the only debate centers around the way this is taking place.

“The heaven, We have built it with power. Verily, We are expanding it.” (51:47)

“We are expanding it’ is the translation of the plural present particle musi’una of the verb ausa’a meaning “to make wider, more spacious, to extend, to expand.”

The Mountains

Mountains are means of fixation of the earth outer surface. They serve as pegs to hold the ground from shaking and turning around. The Quran explained this phenomenon as

”Have we not made the earth an expanse, and the mountains stakes (awtad)?” (78:6-7) and

“And God cast into the Ground Mountains standing so that it does not shake with you.” (31:10). [1,3]

The Qur’an accurately describes mountains as stabilizers for the Earth that holds its outer surface firmly.

Scientific Facts in Quran

Science: Identification through finger tips.
Quran: Does man think We cannot assemble his bones? Yes . . . We are able to put together in perfect order the very tip of his fingers.

Science: Things produced by earth are in pairs
Quran: Glory be to Allah, Who created in pairs all things that the earth produces, as well as their own (human) kind, and other things of which they have no knowledge.

Science: Honey is cure for mankind.
Quran: Comes from their (the bees) bellies a drink of varying colors, wherein is healing for human being. Verily in this is a sign for people who reflect.

Science: Separation of salt and sea water.
Quran: Verily He is the One Who has joined the two seas: this is palatable and sweet, and this is salty and bitter. And He made a barrier between the two of them, and a partition that is forbidden to be passed.

Science: Milk as a wholesome meal
Quran: And verily for you in the cattle there is an instructive sign (lesson). We give you to drink of that which is in their bellies from between excretions and blood, pure milk palatable to the drinkers.

Science: Oceans have darkness under their surfaces
Quran: Or as darkness in a vast, deep sea, there it covers waves, from above which are waves, from above which are clouds. Darkness on top of each other. If a man stretches out his hand, he can hardly see it. And whoever Allah does not make light for him, for him there is no light.

Science: Iron and steel
Quran: And We sent down iron, in which is severe strength and benefits for mankind. Verily in this is a sign for people who reflect.

Science: Sun and Moon
Quran: It is not permitted to the sun to catch up with the moon, nor the night outstrip the day. Each floats in an orbit.

Science: Creation of living creatures from water
Quran: We made from water every living thing.

Science: Mountains have roots inside the earth
Quran: Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, and the mountains as pegs?

The Story of Prophet Yusuf (AS) [Part3]

The Holy Quran says:

“The king dreamt that seven lean cows were eating seven fat ones and that there were seven green ears of corn and seven dry ones. He asked the nobles to tell him the meaning of his dream if they were able to. They replied, "It is a confused dream and we do not know the meaning of such dreams." [Surah Yusuf 12:43,44]

The king of Egypt was quite worried about the dream. He had sought the interpretation of his dream with wise men and astrologers. But they seemed to render no help. When the wine server about the issue, he was minded about Prophet Yusuf and his request for liberation from the prison. He approached the king and told him about Prophet and his ability. The king sent for this man. Prophet Yusuf interpreted the dream by the power of Allah vested in him. He said, “For seven years the crops will yield abundant food-grain for the people of Egypt. After that there will be a famine for seven years during which all the food-grain lying in the storehouses will be finished and people will starve. Therefore, the people should try to grow as much extra grain as possible so that it would stand them in good stead during the time of famine”

The king became quite impressed by Prophet Yusuf ability and ordered to bring him to the court so that he could use of his wisdom in solving problems of the country. Prophet Yusuf (AS) refused to leave the prison until he proved his innocence. He said to the courtiers, "I will not come out of the prison until the king makes enquiries about my case. Tell the king to ask the wives of the noble men about the time when they cut their fingers on seeing me".

The courtiers passed on this message to the king who called the concerned women to him for an explanation. They all confessed the truth and Zuleikha, the wife of the Aziz, also testified that Prophet Yusuf (AS) was innocent of any guilt. Thus, Prophet Yusuf (AS) was released from the prison with his dignity and honor restored.

The Holy Quran says:
The king ordered his men to bring Yusuf before him; he wanted to grant him a high office. The king said to him, "From now on you will be an honoured and trusted person amongst us." Yusuf said, "Put me in charge of the treasuries of the land, I know how to manage them."
Surah Yusuf, 12:54,55

Fruits Mentioned in the Holy Quran

In holy Quran many fruits, vegetables and drinks have been mentioned. These foods items should be included in the daily diet patterns to stay healthy and fit. Quran only embraces things that are worth mentioning and beneficial to humans. Many Quranic verses can be found that have mentioned the name of fruits and drinks and highlighted their important in nutrition. Scientific studies have further confirmed there nutritional value hence leaving no space for uncertainty. Here’s a list of fruits along with related verses mentioned in the Quran.

Dates

“and shake towards you the trunk of the palm tree, it will drop on you fresh ripe dates” [Chapter 19: verse 25]

Fruit

“And for them there is fruit, and for them there is what they ask for.” [36:57]

Corn and Grapes

“and in the earth there are tracts side by side and gardens of grapes and corn and palm trees having one root and (others) having distinct roots-- they are watered with one water, and we make some of them excel others in fruit; most surely there are signs in this for a people who understand.” [Chapter 13: verse 4]

Grains

“The likeness of those who spend their wealth in the Way of God, is as the likeness of a grain (of corn); it grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains. God gives manifold increase to whom He pleases. And God is All-Sufficient for His creatures needs, All-Knower.” [Chapter 2: verse 261]

Herbage, or Abb , Fig and Olives

“he causes to grow for you thereby herbage, and the olives, and the palm trees, and the grapes, and of all the fruits; most surely there is a sign in this for a people who reflect.” [Chapter 16: verse 11]

“i swear by the fig and the olive” [Chapter 95: verse 1]

Buckthorn (lote tree)

“But they turned away (from the obedience of God), so We sent against them Sail Al-'Arim (flood released from the dam), and We converted their two gardens into gardens producing bitter bad fruit, and tamarisks, and some few lote-trees.” [34:16]

Palms and Pomegranate

“and he it is who produces gardens (of vine), trellised and untrellised, and palms and seed-produce of which the fruits are of various sorts, and olives and pomegranates, like and unlike; eat of its fruit when it bears fruit, and pay the due of it on the day of its reaping, and do not act extravagantly; surely he does not love the extravagant” [Chapter 6: verse 141]

Mustard seed

O my son! If it be (anything) equal to the weight of a grain of mustard seed, and  though it be in a rock, or in the heavens or in the earth, God will bring it forth. Verily,  God is Subtle (in bringing out that grain), Well-Aware (of its place). [31:16]

Cucumbers, Garlic, Lentils and Onions

“and when you said: o musa! we cannot bear with one food, therefore pray lord on our behalf to bring forth for us out of what the earth grows, of its herbs and its cucumbers and its garlic and its lentils and its onions. he said: will you exchange that which is better for that which is worse? enter a city, so you will have what you ask for. and abasement and humiliation were brought down upon them, and they became deserving of allah's wrath; this was so because they disbelieved in the communications of allah and killed the prophets unjustly; this was so because they disobeyed and exceeded the limits.” [Chapter2: verse61]                          

Gourd

“And We caused a tree of gourd to grow over him.” [37:146]

Banana

“and banana-trees (with fruits), one above another” [Chapter 56:verse 29]
